Steve
Belt from the Lone Star State of Texas has been in love with Corvettes
since his older sister brought one home when he was fourteen years old.
Steve knew he wanted a Corvette from the first time he saw one. However
like most obsessions it took quite a while for Steve to attain his
dream.
Steve bought his first Corvette, a Daytona Sunset
Orange Convertible C6 in 2006. His next Vette was a new 2008 C6 Z06,
then came a new 2014 C7 Z51 Stingray, a 2015 C7 Z06 , and a 2019 C7
ZR-1, s/n 88,which he picked up at the museum in 2018.
Steve
realized that while the new Vettes were all incredible, he would like
to have a chrome bumper C3. He began his hunt for the perfect C3
project car. He finally found a car that would suite his needs.
The car was a 71 coupe that had been started on as a project car by a
father/son. They ran out of money and were forced to stop the project.
The C3's3's body was nearly complete but the mechanical end of the C3
needed a fair amount of work.
The
project took Steve an additional two and a half years to complete. The
extensive rebuild included a rebuilt engine, drive train, suspension,
brakes, exhaust, wheels/tires, electrical, interior, ac/heat, sound
system, .and anything else that you could possible think of. The
project has been a never ending story. Most of the car is
complete but according to Steve the car is still not finished. As you
know most project cars are never really finished. Steve has reconciled
himself to the unending nature of resto-modding a car but still manages
to enjoy driving this work of art. The C3 is no stranger to the
streets and local car shows.to car shows.
Steve'
s 6'7" body actually fits in his C3. He removed the acoustic/insulation
panel under the driver's side T-Top and installed an automatic since
there is no room for him to use the clutch.. Other than that, he tells
us that he can fit it in well enough to enjoy the ride.
